Overview
For those customers using a 64-bit Microsoft Office installation, running Troika release 2.09.018 or later, and either do not use Troika Accounts Production, or use Troika Accounts Production for running standard probate accounting formats only, you can now install Troika utilising this 64-bit installation.
System DSN's for an Installation Utilising a 64-bit Microsoft Office Installation
It would be usual in an installation to use System DSN's. The Troika Desktop however is only able to form a connection to a 32-bit ODBC System DSN (or User DSN).
Therefore, once the installation routine is completed, you will first need to create a 32-bit ODBC data connection to the database. You can find the 'Set up ODBC data sources (32-bit)' option in the Control Panel of the workstation.
You will need to add a 'System' DSN and you will also be asked for a SQL Server username and password to complete the connection. Please note that you can use SQL or Windows Authentication to connect to the SQL Server database. If using SQL authentication all users must use the same SQL Server user name and the SQL user must have the 'db_TR_USER' role for the Troika database. If a Windows user account is being used, the account must also have the 'db_TR_USER' role for the SQL database.
The language of the DSN must also be set to English and not US or British English. Check the default language of the SQL or Windows account on the SQL Server is set to English before creating the DSN for the user account or profile. This can be found in the properties of the user account in SQL Management Studio.
Use the following settings to create an ODBC data connection to the database:
- Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver Version
- Data Source Name: <Your Database Name>
- Data Source Description: <Your Database Name?
- Server: <Your Server Name>
- Database: <Your Database Name>
- Use ANSI quoted identifiers: Yes
- Use ANSI nulls, paddings and warnings: Yes
- Use the fallover SQL Server if the primary SQL Server is not available: No
- Language: (Default)
- Data Encryption: No
- Translate Character Data: Yes
- Use Regional Settings: No
- Log Long Running Queries: No
- Log Driver Statistics: No
After configuring the System DSN, you will need to use the test option to check for successful connection to your database.
Once done, you will need to repeat this process, this time to create a 64-bit ODBC data connection to the database. You can find the 'Set up ODBC data sources (64-bit)' option in the Control Panel of the workstation.
You will need to add a 'System' DSN, using exactly the same name and credentials as the 32-bit ODBC data connection made.
Connecting the Troika Desktop to the DSN
To attach the Troika Desktop to the necessary DSN, start the Troika Desktop. Select the DSN option from the Troika Desktop by right clicking on the icon in the system tray. Click DSN and Select DSN. Find the newly created 32-bit System DSN and then enter the SQL username and password, if required.
The necessary 32-bit and 64-bit System DSN's are now in place, and Troika is connected to them.
Using Inbuilt Standard Probate Accounts Formats
To use the new inbuilt estate accounts (standard format) users should complete the following.
From the Utilities module, select the Database tab, and the menu option Client Type Settings.
Within the Entity Type dropdown list, select 'Accounts Form'. For Client Type 'Estate', select 'Access Accounts' from the dropdown list.
Click Close to Save.
