Overview

Until recently, Troika required Microsoft Office 32-bit for accounts production, and integration with Microsoft Word and Excel. Many of our Troika users are now requiring Microsoft Office 64-bit internally, but also require continued use of Troika accounts.

Initial Workaround

Where it was essential a customer used Microsoft Office 64-bit internally, a temporary workaround was to install 32-bit applications of Microsoft Access runtime and Microsoft Word (2010 or 2013), in addition to having Microsoft Office 64-bit applications installed (Office 2016/2019/365). The two applications worked side by side.

It was noted that you would be unable to install both 32-bit and 64-bit applications of Office 2016/2019/365 alongside each other. It would need to be a previous version: 2010 or 2013.

Microsoft no longer offer support for either their 2010 or 2013 Office products.

Accounts Production

Recent development has meant that Troika can now be installed into setups utilising 64-bit MSOffice. Accounting formats are now delivered within the product, in-built within MSAccess.

From release 2.09.018, our standard probate accounting format became available for use. Further formats, including Trust and Trust Life Interest, have since been incorporated.

All further development to our formats will be included in our release notes.

Amending An Existing Setup

Existing clients can adjust their setup to utilise these new in-built formats with 64-bit MSOffice by:

  • Create an additional 64-bit ODBC data connection to the database. Instructions on this can be found here.
  • Adjusting Troika settings within the Utilities module, Database tab and the menu option Client Type Settings. Within the Entity Type dropdown list, select 'Accounts Form'. For all Client Types, select 'Access Accounts' from the dropdown list. Click Close to Save.

Installing Troika in a 64-bit MSOffice environment will require our most recent installer, TroikaInstall2025.msi. This can be downloaded from a link within this article, if required.
